Villa Arson is more than just a mere museum in Nice. It is one of the institutions which are deeply and actively involved in the cultural and artistic life of Nice. The villa and its surrounding gardens and terraces form an architectural complex which stretches on a surface of more than 2 square kilometers in the Saint Bathelemy district of Nice.

Villa Arson is at the same time an art museum where exhibitions are constantly organized, an art school (the National Superior School of Arts, locally referred to as Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Arts) and a research center in the field of contemporary art. It also accommodates the residences of sundry artists. Obviously, this is a place where art is not just a mission, but a way of living.

The history of the institution (successively called Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs, Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Arts de Nice and, eventually, Villa Arson) goes back to the early 1880s, but the present headquarters was granted to the institution no sooner than the early 1970s.
