The Poets Spring was first organized in 1999, and it refers to a nationwide festival which encourages the celebration of this form of art. Nice too partakes in this French festival, with cultural activities organized throughout the city, hosted by a large range of institutions and venues (schools, libraries, theaters, cafes), as well as with open-air events.

Each year the festival is designed such as to accommodate a certain thematic coordinate. It is usually held in March, and the events last two weeks. Outside France, the festival has also penetrated the cultural agenda of Quebec.
