The traditional pétanque, though invented in south Provence, has become popular in countries of the farthermost Asia and less known to Europeans. However, in order to honor this traditional game, the city of Nice organizes each late July the so-called European Pétanque Competition (or Riviera Pétanque Show). The chief venues hosting the event refer to Promenades des Anglais, to Place Massena and to the Albert I Garden.
